What are some basic tips to ensure my coolant system is okay?
- Keep an eye out for any leaks underneath your car where you park.
- When getting your oil changed, ask your service advisor how your coolant looks. Does it look dirty? Is it at the proper level? Is it the right color coolant?
- Speaking of the right color… Not all coolant is universal. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to add coolant to your vehicle, make sure you add the right stuff! Coolant can be pink, purple, blue, orange, green, etc. If you’re in a bind, give us a call and we can help you determine the right coolant for your vehicle. We keep most varieties in stock.
- Just like your oil changes, flushing your coolant system is imperative for a healthy engine, and even a warm cabin! Your coolant runs through a part called a heater core. This is where the heat from the vents in your cabin come from. Dirty, poorly maintained coolant can clog this heater core if not properly maintained, causing expensive repairs that most service contract companies don’t cover.
- If you find yourself in a tough situation and low on coolant. Distilled water can be temporary solution to get you to a nearby shop.
